This star caused a great deal of trouble in the early images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. Because of a defect in the telescopeΓÇÖs primary mirror, objects produced a diffraction pattern in the image. The brighter the object, the brighter the pattern. Since this star is so much brighter than the faded supernova remnant, early images were dominated by its diffraction. With the corrections to the telescopeΓÇÖs optics such distortion no longer occurs.
